fly. thousands of flights have resumed in southern europe and parts of britain and france should be back in business. it's welcomed news for travelers but with the backlog of flights, it could take a while to get home. >> i'm still here and they haven't told me anything defendant. >> some are trying to find alternative transportation, but tickets are hard to come by. so many british travelers cannot get home that the navy has sent warships to pick up the stranded. the planes have been sitting on the runway for days and it's hurt the airlines. the lack of air shipping has caused a ripple effect. flower growers in kenya taking big losses because they can't export to europe. the florists are losing money as well. >> we have 15% less flowers.

tomorrow and it could land at edwards air force base in california. >> the pilots need good visibility, they only have one shot at it. >> reporter: it's a mission riddled with challenges including a faulty valve and a jammed latch. >> we have had blow after blow. stephanie wilson used the robotic arm to overcome a problem with a giant storage bin after the latch stuck. during this mission, three space walks upgraded equipment on the outside of the station. nasa is racing against the clock and also to stock it with spare parts and supplies. it's scheduled to make the final flight in september after that, nasa's shift focuses to a rescue capsule for astronauts

three people are seriously injured in philadelphia after a crash involving a horse-drawn carriage. a car pushed one up on the curb and one overturned. two drivers in serious but stable condition tonight at the hospital. the driver is reported to be in serious condition. no horses were injured and an investigation is understood way. the final report is released about the death of an olympic luger killed in a training one. the federation says there's no single reason for the unforeseeable accident that killed the georgian racer. they say a complex series of events led to the tragedy. he was flung from the ice and struck a pole hours before february's opening ceremony. tensions higher than ever.

the battle over amanda knox's murder conviction. she was found guilty of killing her roommate. they're pushing to extend her jail sentence while her family fights to set her free. >> reporter: a notice filed to extend her sentence to life. they cited her lack of remorse. >> that's ridiculous, first of all she showed a lot of devastation over the loss of her friend. but you know, you don't apologize for something you didn't do. >>reporter: now her attorneys are firing back, filing their appeal. a 201-page document that attacks her conviction, her long interrogation when she was forced to confess.

a former virginia tech student will spend the rest of his life behind bars for decapitateing a classmate. he was sentenced to life without parol afterpleading guilty. he attacked the 22-year-old while they had coffee because she rejected his advances. two bombs explode hours a part and 23 people are dead.

a suicide bomber targeted those and both officers and protesters were kill. another bomb went off outside of a school. it's been one of the pakistan cities hardest hit by al-qaida attacks. >> survivors are still pulled from the rubble in china, an incredible five days after an earthquake. more than two hundred still missing, rescuers are working around the clock. they pulled survivors free after they were trapped after a wrecked building. a four-year-old salesgirl four- year-old -- girl alive. the snow forecast for the next few days, soldiers working to reconstruct buildings for survivors. denise. >> the president flew into the earthquake region over the

i'm kai jackson. >> and i'm mary bubala. here's what people will be talking b. >> we have breaking news to report to you right now. sky eye chopper 13 is over southbound 95. sky eye chopper 13 is on the scene. let's go to captain mike perry with more. mike? >> reporter: hello, kai. we are in savage, howard county, 95 southbound, south of route 32, where a personal injury accident, involving a car and a tractor-trailer has closed, all but two lanes of southbound 95. now, when the accident occurred just a few moments ago, firefighters arrived to find a vehicle had collided with a tractor-trailer that was parked along the right shoulder of the roadway. the driver of the sedan who was trapped inside the vehicle for a short period of time. firefighters just moments ago were able to rescue that person. he was going to be flown to shock trauma. now it appears that they are going to drive by land to a nearby trauma center. it's not clear at this point where that victim is going. the driver of the k,
